Samar Nasrullah Khan (UK) is extending their research of interspecies communication into world-building around new chapters of human-machine relations. Through their doctoral study of cow communication, Samar learnt embodied listening strategies from plants, animals and indigenous traditions. By emphasising the role of multisensorial and empathetic encounters with others, Samar's work addresses a blindspot in techno-scientific fantasies of AI becoming intelligent enough to find patterns in nonhuman communication and translate them.
Khan has a bachelors in Physics and Philosophy and a masters in the History and Philosophy of Science. Their work has been shown at Het Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam, NL), Dutch Design Week (Eindhoven, NL), Zone2Source (Amsterdam), Bristol Archives (Bristol, UK), Centraal Museum (Utrecht, NL), Rijksmuseum (Twenthe, NL), Brutus (Rotterdam), The Grey Space (the Hague, NL), Utrecht University (Utrecht, NL), Hypha Studios (London, UK). They have won support from the Culture fund of the Netherlands through the Building Talent scheme.
