MACHINIC ECHOES OF A MARKING
Machinic Echoes: An Open Translation
This page brings together a selection of responses generated through the open translation exercise conducted between January and March. Working from three of Mohammed Chiba’s original artworks, participants described what they perceived; these texts were then used to produce 'machinic' images.
Presented here are selected translations from that process. Each pairing traces a movement from mark to description to generated image, foregrounding how attention, language, and interpretation condition what becomes visible.
The selection does not aim for completeness or fidelity. It assembles a range of readings—attentive, associative, literal, or unexpected—where description operates as both observation and construction. Its composition and sequence follow a subjective logic, open to being read alongside the works themselves.
